Second Annual Flagstaff Food Film Festival this weekend

Slow Food NAU Presents
The Second Annual Flagstaff Food Film Festival
February 18, 4pm-9pm, February 19, 12pm-9pm
Cline Auditorium, Northern Arizona University

The Flagstaff Food Film Festival seeks to advance the understanding of the environmental and social problems surrounding our current food system. The festival will present thought-provoking films such as Ingredients, Food Stamped, and The Vanishing of the Bees, and will provide the opportunity to network with student and community food groups. Local chefs will provide samples from their local and regional menus and there will be chances to win local veggies (from Flagstaff Community Supported Agriculture) and other prizes.

The film festival will also welcome keynote speaker Mark Winne, author, food justice advocate, and co-founder of the Community Food Security Coalition. Winne’s two books Closing the Food Gap: Resetting the Table in the Land of Plenty and Food Rebels, Guerrilla Gardeners, and Smart Cookin’ Mamas: Fighting Back in an Age of Industrial Agriculture will be available for purchase. There will be a book signing on Friday from 4-4:30pm and from 8:30-9pm. For more about Mark Winne, visit www.markwinne.com.

All food and films are FREE to the public.

This event is being made possible through the generous funding from STAC (The Student Activities Council), the NAU Green Fund (a student-led, student-created, and student-funded organization) and a community non-profit, Flagstaff Foodlink and the Masters of Arts in Sustainable Communities Program.

O’Connor House and Expect More Arizona Unite Around Arizona Constitution’s Prioritization of Education

The O’Connor House and Expect More Arizona announced today the launch of The Arizona Education Commitment, a statewide, nonpartisan initiative to protect and preserve Arizona’s state educational institutions. The principles outlined in The Arizona Education Commitment are based on Article XI, Section 10 of the Arizona Constitution. It is being elevated by the supporters to increase public awareness about the constitutional prioritization of education and as a means to encourage Arizona citizens and leaders to explore all revenue enhancing options for addressing the state’s budget deficit and protecting vital public services such as education, public health and public safety.

“The authors of the Arizona Constitution believed so strongly in providing for our state educational institutions that education is the only significant affirmative appropriation identified in our state’s governing document,” said retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. “As a result, the state legislature is required to insure the proper maintenance of all our state educational institutions, even in tough economic times, and to make such special appropriations as shall provide for their development and maintenance.”

March for Babies 2011

March of Dimes is the only health agency in history to have funded a cure - Dr. Jonas Salk’s polio vaccine in 1954. With this success, the March of Dimes turned to ensuring that all babies everywhere have a healthy start in life by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

March of Dimes carries out its mission in the name of babies, moms and families everywhere! We stand for a solution, not a problem. You have the opportunity to be a part of the solution Mom is looking for! Who cares about babies as much as the March of Dimes? Mom. Along with us, she is baby’s biggest champion.

By partnering with March of Dimes, you and your company will be helping to save Arizona’s babies while garnering positive exposure and wider recognition in Flagstaff.

Some of the benefits of partnering with March of Dimes include:

• Cause Related Exposure through association with the March of Dimes, one of the most widely known, respected and successful national health agencies in the country. March of Dimes is the number 2 “top of mind” charity names by moms in a 2007 Gallup Survey and 98% of moms know the March of Dimes brand.

• Enhanced Public Image through affiliation with March of Dimes, one of the strongest name brands in the nonprofit sector, with high name recognition and extremely favorable opinion. Since we’re number 2 on mom’s mind, you and your company will be on her mind, as well. According to M2M Conference 2007, Mom is in control of more than $1.7 trillion in spending each year. Wouldn’t you want your brand to be exposed to Mom?

• Enhanced Employee Pride & Team Spirit through active participation on March of Dimes committees and through events such as March for Babies.

• Marketing Opportunities to promote your company at specified event(s), business-to-business and through cross-promotional opportunities provided via media sponsors.

• Enhanced Visibility and Name Recognition through media placements and promotions, March of Dimes collateral and presentations to corporations, community organizations and individuals statewide.
